St George

St George

A lot of people do polls or top tens of the greatest minis of all time and their all wrong. The only true contender (which may mislead you into thinking there was any kind of contest) is this guy. St George from the travelling players range. Some other blogs might tell you about his backstory or the design decisions made at the time of production. Not me, it's a guy on a panto horse with a wooden sword what more do you want?

St George

He was painted in heroic colours because that's what this guy is. Sure you could make up a little panto stage from balsa wood and left over banners but he belongs on the battlefield charging into giants, trolls or 100 strong units of black orcs. Forget mad counts and green knights this is the only hero you will ever need. This is who Bonnie Tyler sang about.

All he needed was a sexy base to look heroically out at the world from. Normally my bases are not great but that had to change. While it may look a little simple the base strongly implies a vast field of defeated enemies just below his rocky outcrop. Is he staring resolutely towards the tower of a soon to be defeated evil wizard or gazing upon a town under the yoke of a tyrant. Who can know the thoughts of so great and heroic a mind.

As you can tell I'm a fan of NPC minis and really need to paint more up. It ones of the reasons why I like otherworld miniatures so much, everyone looks like they are going about their day job rather than about to hit someone (something) in the face. Also their range of NPC characters. I'll stop the sales pitch now.

Thanks for reading.
